Dr. Janet Colaizzi Publishes ESH History Book - Hot off the press, Eastern State Hospital’s own Dr. Janet Colaizzi has published the long-awaited history of ESH from 1865 to the present. Entitled, “The Unfortunates Committed to our Care: The History of Eastern State Hospital, Williamsburg, Virginia from 1865”, signed copies of the book are being offered to the general public at $35.00 (including shipping) per copy. Dr. Colaizzi has directed that all of the proceeds from the sale of the book be deposited to the Hospital Welfare Fund for the benefit of the patients.
ESH Offers Cat’s Meow Keepsake Collectible - In celebration of the 230th Anniversary of Eastern State Hospital, a Cat’s Meow keepsake of the Public Hospital of 1773 is being offered for sale as a Hospital Fundraiser. It is a handsomely painted wooden model of America’s first psychiatric hospital, manufactured under a special arrangement with The Cat’s Meow organization. This represents the first time that this building has been included in the Cat’s Meow collection.
The obverse is an exact replica of the Public Hospital of 1773 as constructed in every detail by the Colonial Williamsburg Foundation. The reverse contains a description of the Hospital and the acknowledgment of the Hospital’s 230th Anniversary. The price is $20.00 (shipping included) and they may be obtained Glass Sun Catcher with ESH logo in coke bottle green. (Cobalt Blue is out of stock) The price is $10.00. The Sun Catcher is $5.00 for ESH employees, volunteers and retirees.
